Woman fatally stabbed

A woman was stabbed to death at about 4:55 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 28, outside her home in the 4800 block of North Moody Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The woman’s neighbor reported that he heard screams outside and that when he went to investigate he saw the woman lying on the ground and a man leaning over her holding her purse, according to police. The man reported that he shouted and that the man fled in a car, police said.
The woman, who had stab wounds and slash wounds to her throat, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to police. The neighbor reported that he saw the man walking up and down the street for about 40 minutes prior to the incident, police said.
A person of interest was in custody, but was released without charges, according to the Chicago Police Department Office of News Affairs. The investigation is still ongoing, police said.
The woman was identified by police as Maria Gonzalez, age 39, of the 4800 block of Moody.
