Woman reports assault on Sauganash bike trail
The Chicago Police Department Area North Bureau of Detectives has issued a community alert after a woman reported that she was sexually assaulted at about 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 1, under the Sauganash Trail in the 4300 block of West Peterson Avenue,
The woman reported that as she was pushing a stroller, a man approached her, made sexual remarks, slapped her on the buttocks, and ran away, according to police. The woman said that moments later the same man reappeared and fondled her genitals and breasts, police said.
Witnesses reported that a man who matched the description that was provided was seen running naked on or near the Sauganash Trail, police said.
The man was described as Hispanic or Middle Eastern, age 20 to 30, 5-6 and 160 to 170 pounds, with black curly hair and a mustache and wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt shirt and gray sweat pants when he was clothed.
Residents are urged to alert their neighbors about the incident, stay in well lit areas and to not exercise or ride a bike alone on the trail.
Alderman Margaret Laurino (39th) said that she recently met with members of the Sauganash Trail Committee who approved her suggestion to install a camera at the end of the trail near Kostner and Bryn Mawr avenues.
Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call the 17th District station at 312-744-4410 or investigating detectives at 312-744-8216.
